We’re two years old … v7.11

17 07 2011
That’s right. Bang JAM’s first edition was two whole years back
And to celebrate, we treated ourselves with the 14th edition. Bang JAM v7.11. The turnout was great. We had alumni from IIIT Hyderabad, IIM Lucknow, MSRIT Bangalore, BITS Pilani and NIT Trichy.
The celebrations began with a round of straightforward, unadulterated (kidding, of course…) JAM.  It was great to see many first time JAMmers waiting to get their hands on the buzzers… err… tables. After the mod (yours truly) explained the rules of JAM, the games began.

JAMming 101

The topic : “Delhi daredevil supporters seem to be having a lot of fun since they are supporting double Ds” . Though most of the talking was done by young blood Akshay Ramani, Void Vaidyanathan and Tushar,  each speech lasted no longer than an average human belch. The objections kept flowing … “Post-Qualification”, “No-Qualification”, “Directed Speech”, “Speech Dee”, “Late Start”, “No Start” and “Machan..that was too boring da..”.
The moderator, quick to notice the deep slumber of veteran Bang JAMmer  Twovikram (name changed to protect identity) swapped positions with him for the Disconnect Round. The JAMmers went from topic to topic disconnecting away.  At the end of the round there were only 3 Wikipedia pages not referenced to. The true highlight of the round would be Amay’s objection signaling a connect between rain and basketball – Rain -> Rainy Season -> Season -> The NBA Season (!!).

Disconnected...

Mr. Shah had put together an innovative Potpourri (a mix of dumb charades, tinto, pixie and other random assortments) based on the popular board game Risk.
At first, we were divided into teams of 3. To decide the initial set of countries for each team, we were put through a rapid fire Dumb C + Tinto mix. Following this, we had a  “Guess the Popular TV show theme” round. The round had a mix of all genres from the X-files down to Duck Tales. Akshay Ramani, being his enthusiastic self, guessed “Black Adder” for every alternate theme, assuming that he would be right at least once, and betting majorly against the law of averages. Aditya Kalyanakrishnan (aka AK) and team pretty much swept the round and that meant that his team’s red armies had half conquered the world.
Then comes the challenging part. No, seriously… the teams challenge each other. After the initial distribution of countries, the teams would attack neighbouring countries by challenging the team that owns it. Challenges could be a quiz question, a tinto or a dumb C.
Bang JAM

Perspective shot.Very Plusoneable.

In spite of incessant challenges from all teams, the reds continued to dominate the map and by virtue of holding on to more territories than any other team, were crowned champions!

Don’t forget to tune in to the next Bang JAM. Same bat time… Same bat channel, but probably a month later.

Until then…Adios !
